Hi. I am currently in Italy and planning a one-week trip to Paris. I am not sure where to find guide books in English, so am hoping you can help me out with recommendations for neighborhoods. I am traveling alone, and would like to be in or close to the town center, although I am open to other suggestions. I am trying to keep costs down, so any recommendations for inexpensive lodging (even hostels) would be valuable. I will start here, as lodging is my first priority. May come back with other questions later. Thanks so much!
Theresa
For hostels you can't beat the three MIJE hostels in the Marais. They are renovated 17th-century private mansions and both the Rick Steves and Lonely Planet Paris guidebooks call them "the best budget accommodations in Paris." They are centrally located and are close to Metro lines. While lots of school groups stay in them, they're open to all ages, including seniors (like me).
Wow - that's great! Thank you. I am not quite a senior, but let's just say, I am from the late boomer generation (-: I just sent the hostel an email. I don't read or speak a word of French, so hope they understand my request and questions! Will see. In the meantime, do you know if the hostel has any private rooms with toilet and shower? Thanks again for the help! I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed with my search, particularly since I am in Italy and, as of now, have no access to an English guide book. Cheers,
Theresa
