First day in Barcelona

I'm interested in getting some feedback on my tentative itinarary for Day one in Barcelona. We're 2 couples arriving on a Friday -leaving Tuesday by AVE train to Madrid. Plane lands at 7:10 am Airport bus to Placa de Catalunya Taxi to out apt near the Liceau Metro stop to get keys from landlord Go to La Boquiera Market to buy some food and wine Back to apt to drop off food Stroll down the Ramblas to the end Eat in Barcelonetta From there head to Montjuic Stay for fountain and light show To Metro -to home to sleep I haven't figured out mode of transportation from Barcelonetta to Mont Juic or from MJ to the Metro. If this is not too much, that leaves us a day for Gaudi, a day for Bari Gotic And then Montserrat on our last full day.
So what do you think? Too much the first day (we are all healthy and love to walk).

It does not sound like too much to me, but are you sure you can get into your apartment in the morning? We did something similar our first day in Barcelona, but it was after a good night's sleep since we arrived the previous evening. We slept in to around 10 and then headed out on foot from our hotel near Placa Catalunya. Walked to la Boqueria and stopped for breakfast, then continued down Las Ramblas. (You would be adding a return to your apartment to drop off groceries, and I don't know how much of a detour that would be. You may find la Boqueria crowded and hard to deal with for multiple purchases as each type of food is a different stop. If that doesn't work, you can always buy groceries and wine at El Corte ingles on Placa Catalunya.) We continued down Las Ramblas to the end and then turned right, heading to Montjuic (so we did not go to Barceloneta on this walk). We walked up through the cactur gardens to the mirador, and then contiinued on up and over to see the Olympic stadium and pool, marveling at the plaques in th econcrete outside the stadium and how many had been stolen. Then we walked down the other side to Placa Espanya and it was only 1:30, time for lunch. After lunch we continued back along Gran Via toward our hotel, with a stop to look around the University, and over to El corte Ingles for wine before ending up at our hotel around 4:00. You would be adding the walk out to Barcelonetta, but subtracting some of the distance we covered on foot since you could take the metro. And if the port cablecar (Transbordador Aeri del Port) is running you could take that from Barceloneta up to Montjuic.

Tip, don't go nuts and buy too much food, you are already planning on first night out for dinner so that leaves you only two days you will need food for.. we ended up giving the people in the apartment next to us in Paris a bunch of our food, because even after 7 days there we didn't finish things( we had 8 out a dozen eggs left!) and some things we bought we hadn't even opened, but its just so exciting shoppping in little foriegn markets.. eyes bigger then tummies.

If all of you are able to sleep on the plane then it is probably a doable itinerary. We didn't get much sleep so we arrived in Barcelona at 7am spaced-out, tired, jet-lagged. We ended up taking a nap during the siesta hours which helped a lot. If you eat in Barcelonetta then taking a taxi from there to MJ would conserve energy as its a good distance between the two. Taxis in Barcelona are reasonably priced.
