Fireworks at Versaille

Even though we are fireworks nuts, were not planning on going to this show. Our plan was to arrive at Verailles early using public transportation to tour the palace and ground . We will have the Pass that covers the admisssion. We were going to buy the separate admission to see the water fountains, but then leave. THEN, we saw the national Geographic special on the Versaille and the show looks fabulous. It also looked like the 'day people' were asked to clear the grounds pretty early. So questions: Can any one clarify the scheduling? Has anyone stayed for the fireworks and then done the public transport back to paris? I looked at the schedules and it seems like we would be cutting it very close?Anyone take a tour? Or should we just be satisfied with the day trip?
Thanks so much

Have you checked Versailles website...the fireworks show is listed...doesn't start til 9 PM. You do have buy admission to this event. I too thought about making a very long day of it but I have thought better of that idea.

As noted, the fireworks is a separate show that starts later in the evening and goes till about 11:30. That's a long day in Versailles just to see fireworks, but for some it might be worth it. The catch is limited public transit back to Paris afterwards. It can be done and in another similar thread about 2-3 weeks ago I outlined where and when. Do a search for that thread and review my instructions for returning to Paris. If you do stay, you could have a dinner in Versailles and explore the city center some. It's a nice town but I've seen the fireworks (more from afar) and I personally wouldn't go through the hassle for it.
