Can a hotel/pension/b&b room (double) be found in Berner Oberland, Austrian Alps & Bavaria without a reservation?
We're spending 10 days in the Alps this August. Would like to have the flexibility of finding accommodations as we go along. However, I'm not sure if this is do-able. Thanks in advance.
The train stations in Wengen, Zermatt, and I'm sure other Alpine towns, have an accommodations board showing lodging in that town and which ones have vacancies. There's a free telephone attached to the board so you can call and arrange a room, transportation to the hotel, etc.
We had planned ahead so we didn't use the board, but I did notice that we could have easily found a room when we toured in June.
