I will be visiting the Ulm area soon and would like to look up an old friend. She was a high school teacher in the Ulm district in the mid 1980's but I don't know which school. Where might I find information that would help find her again?

This is what I would do:
If you know her name:
1. Try google online.
2. Once you are in the area I would start by the local phone books.
3. If there aren't many high schools in the area vist a few them and ask for high school reunions lists.
4. Put an add in the local paper (there) with your email address.
5. If you have money..hire a private detective.

Googling is, of course, the first thing to do. Don't just try her name...add things like, Ulm, teacher, to narrow down the responses.
You might also write to the school district or whoever is in charge of the schools saying you are trying to find her. If they have records, they may not tell you her contact information but might be willing to forward your information on to her.
Do you know any mutual friends or aquantances you can get in touch with who might know where to find her? Any previous students or fellow workers?
Anyone the two of you might have come in contact with might know her.
OF course, then there is the phone book (as mentioned earlier). You can probably find it online.
Any organizations she belonged to? Unions? Clubs? Houses of Worship?
