We booked our Spain trip to be in San Sebastian from 9/26 - 10/1 & just found out that the International Film Festival will be taking place 9/20 - 9/28! We wanted this to be a relaxing, leisurely vacation. How crowded/noisy is it during that time?
Not an answer to your specific question as I haven't been to San Sebastian during the film festival so I'm not sure how busy it will be. San Sebastian seems hectic to me at any time - one option would be to stay somewhere nearby and day trip to San Sebastian. We stayed in Saint-Jean-de-Luz - it's a quiet seaside town. Bayonne would be an option as well. On the other hand, it might be fun to attend some of the films!
It's one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in the world. Back in the seventies it hosted the European premiere of a little film called Star Wars:) So yes it's a big deal. Be glass half-full about it, it should be a fun time to visit. They will be doing the European premiere of Devils Knot, about the West Memphis murder case.....you might get to spot Reese Witherspoon and/or Colin Firth. http://www.sansebastianfestival.com
Hmmm that does sound interesting! I went to the website & couldn't find "The Devil's Knot or Reese Witherspoon in any of the searches. I'd love to see it. How can I find it?
I tried searching the Festival's website and didn't see it either. But the film's IMDB page has it as the closing film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804463/combined From that, I got a list of the official selections: http://eyeforfilm.co.uk/festivals/sansebastian/2013/ssff-2013-official-selection
Devil's Knot: http://tinyurl.com/kyhpkrq Colin Firth (and Nicole Kidman)will also be in another film at the fest called Railway Man, true story of Allied POWs building the "death railway" through Thailand. I hoping to see both films at the Toronto Film Fest in a couple weeks.
Thanks so much. That looks very interesting. I'll have to see if either of those films will be playing when we would be there.
