Figueras - Dali House

We will be in Barcelona for three days at the end of October. I am a Dali fan and would like to see Figueres while there. Without a car, what is the best option for such a visit and where can I find specific schedules. How much time should we allow?
Am I right to think that adding Cadaques is a bit over the top with only three days in Barcelona?
Thanks for your help.

Cadaques is great, but stick with Figueres. Enjoy your limited time in Barcelona.

Figueres is about a two hour train ride from Barcelona. We started our journey from the RENFE station at the Passeig de Gracia. You can also leave from the Sants station. Buy your roundtrip tickets at either station as trains usually run once every hour. When you arrive in Figueres be sure to check your return schedule as they become less frequent in the evening, but you shouldn't be there more than three or four hours...there's nothing else to do in the town. Follow the signs to the Dali museum from the station. It's about a 15-minute hike. Cross the street from the train station and cut across the little park to start picking up the signs. We just followed the flow of the crowd. Don't forget that it's closed on Mondays. Have fun.

Spent 10 days in Barcelona back in March. Used a tour company called Rabbies to go on a day trip to Cadaques, Port Lligat and Figueres. The guide drove a mini-van. There were six other people on the tour. The stop in Cadaques was pretty limited. The bulk of the tour time was spent visiting Dali's house in Port Lligate and with free time on your own in Figueres for lunch and the museum. It was a great way to get to some sites I couldn't have seen without a car. Anyway, just something to consider. Have a fun trip.

We have an amazing Dali museum here in St Pete florida, so I was soooooo excited to see his museum in Figueres. It was amazing and tickled the senses. His Mae West room was cool. You shouldn't miss this site.

The Dali house is definitely worth a vist. The setting alone is fantastic, and combined with a visit inside is something well worth seeing. I was there several years ago. You need to have a ticket for admission and that ticket will have a certain time for entrance on it. Not sure if or how you get them ahead of time. I was with a group and they had been prearranged. Only a certain number of people are admitted at any time.

I also went to the museum, but did not go in. Rather, I walked around the area. Some who did go in were impressed favorably, and others said it was not their cup of tea.

Another site nearby is Cape De Rouge, a fantastic garden on the coast.

Suggest a tour as mentioned on another post here will be the best route.

Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas. As much as an organized tour appeals (primarily for simplicity of transportation), it is outside our budget.

I'm not sure I should push my wife to indulge my (slight?) fixation on Dali.

We arrive in Barcelona late on a Friday evening and leave mid-afternoon on Monday. Given that limited time there are trade-offs to be made for sure.

Is Montserrat a good alternative for an out of the city adventure? Is it a shorter expedition than Figueras?
