Looking to add on to an early fall trip to Avignon. Hoping for suggestions of festivals/events that would be a convienent distance from there. Will be flying in/out of Paris. Fun, food, wine, and people would be the focus.

If you have Rick Steve's book on France, or if anyone does, look in the Appendix under "Holidays and Festivals." That should help...

That time of year wine festivals are pretty common. Frommers.com has a calendar where I've found local events I didn't find elsewhere. You might check that out.

I would check the websites for Avignon and Paris for specific events in these cities. I also use the website http://www.whatsonwhen.com/sisp/index.htm to check for other regional festivals. We have had the pleasure of finding many small celebrations/festivals connected to various harvest events during this time of year in small villages. Have fun exploring.
