55.80 Euro is for a round-trip same-day return ticket for one passenger on foot. You can book on-line (after free registration) at http://www.frs.es, and that might be advisable if you're travelling in the summer. You need your passport number, and you must show your passport, credit card you used to make the purchase, and the e-mail booking confirmation at the ticket window. Remember, too, that Morocco is two hours BEHIND Spanish time in the summer....so you'll arrive in Tangiers an hour and a quarter before you left Tarifa!? That's one reason the first ferry isn't until 9 am...you arrive in Tangiers at 7:45 a.m. local time. By booking ahead, you can maximize your day in Tangiers, and not getting stuck taking a later ferry over, and an earlier ferry back. Read Rick's procedures for showing your passport at the little office next to the duty free on the lower deck's left side.

Patricia, I would suggest you hire one of the guides RS recommends. We spent the day with RS-recommended guide Aziz Begdouri, and he even arranged purchase of our roundtrip tickets. He then met us at the pier in Tangier, then dropped us off and got us thru the long lines on our return trip. He was well worth the cost.

just returned from a trip to Spain. Roundtrip ferry tickets were 57 euros. We had a tour with Aziz and he arranged the ferry tickets. We spent the night in Tangier and returned the next day to Spain. I would recommend a tour such as Aziz. He was a wonderful tour guide, took us to places we would not have traveled too, and it was all absolutely wonderful. For just alittle more than the price of the crossing alone, you can have a memorable day in Tangier with Aziz.

This is the best place I could for the following. Hopefully this will be of help to somebody.

I was in Tarifa early May of '08. I took a daytrip to Tangiers, didn't plan anything in advance, got a terrible guide and had a crappy time. Which was OK, since I was only there a couple hours.

But I do have some advice. If possible, avoid buying your ferry tickets at the portside office, as it is a zoo. If you DO find yourself in that situation, be alert. Windows open and close with no apparent rhyme or reason. More importantly, BE AGGRESSIVE - DEFEND YOUR PLACE IN LINE. Now is not the time to be polite, as the locals do not respect the usual line/queue protocol.

I want to spend at least one night in Tangier. I looked on lonelyplanet and hostelworld but everything is over my budget. Any suggestions?
