We have 4 full days to side trip from Brussels. Is it feasible (and enjoyable) to see the Rhine Valley, Rothenburg and the Romantic Road in that amount of time? Would it be better to go to Mosel, or any other suggestions? We want to see a good amount but also want to savor the experience. There will be 2 couples travelling with a rental car.
Thanks for your insights!
Four days would be pushing it to say the least! You could probably do the Mosel (Trier, Cochem, Eltz castle) and get down to the Rhine, but Rothenburg is a 5 hour+ train ride, so even by car it would take a while.
Sherry, I fully agree with Steve. It's not feasible and it wouldn't make sense either as there are so many beautiful sights, castles and landscapes in the West of Germany. From Brussels drive down to Trier. Form there follow the Mosel river towards Koblenz and the Rhine valley. That alone is a 2 days journey as there are so many sights to visit, views to enjoy. On the third day do a cruise on the Rhine river. On day 4 visit Cologne and Aachen and end your day with a late-night return to Brussels.
And don't forget - the Romantic Road is NOT the autobahn. There are many many small towns and villages where the maximum speed is about 30 Kmh.
