Whatever is in front of me upon exiting the hotel after dropping off my bag - knowing I have it all to come. My second favorite is Les Invalides. I get a real sense of the past when I'm in that building.

In addition to all the above, I love the views of the Seine, Pont Alexandre, the Eiffel tower light show at night, the Hotel de Ville, Canal St. Martin, the great people watching, and the fantastic stores.

I love the Luxembourg gardens....a great place to see people, statues, greenery. I've been twice and loved sailing the little boats and just sitting on a chair eating a sandwich while Parisians go on about their daily life.

My favorite thing in Paris was the view from the Sacre' Couer dome. Just climbing it was interesting and I got all kinds of cool photos on the way up. The view is fantastic to say the least. We did this in July, Paris was packed, and we were the ONLY people up there. Thought that was kind of strange, but nice.

Bastile Day was superb, I would go back again for that party.

All of the above, plus the Momarttan-Monet museum. The building itself, once a hunting lodge, is worth the price of admission, go on Tuesday when all the state museums are closed.

Like you, Sue, I love the impressionist gallery at the Orangerie and the D'Orsay--those galleries always inspire me. Each time I visit I return to Napeleon's Tomb but can't explain why! I also love walking through Ile Saint Louis and exploring Rue Mouffetard.

The back of Notre Dame, love looking at the flying buttresses , and imagining the poor souls who had to work high up on the steeples, years before the concept of safety equipment .. LOL

Anywhere along the Seine.

Plus just about everything everyone else just mentioned.!!

There isn't a sight in Paris I don't enjoy. I loved Paris when I went in early december seeing the christmas markets and everything all light up for the holidays. I loved the D'Orsay I love impressionism, and the Eiffel Tower light up at night.

I really enjoyed the Picasso museum in the Marais. A nice museum in itself (not the institutional bldg experience) and far less crowed than the other biggies.

Also love the Musée Rodin, house filled with treasures and lovely garden where you can sit, admire, and think about Le Penseur...view of Eiffel Tower in distance...lovely place.
Addition: standing atop the Arc de Triomphe after dark

The Medieval History museum. It has pieces of stained glass and stonework from Notre Dame and St. Chapelle down at eye level (pieces that have come off and had to be replaced). There is also a display of childrens toys, various personal hygiene items, jewelry and so forth and an illustrated manuscript you can flip through. I like it because it is small and intimate. It doesn't overwhelm like some of the larger museums can.

Early evening on the Champs Elysées at Christmas time when all the trees are sparkling with white fairy lights, and the whole broad avenue looks magical.

Père Lachaise Cemetery

Why? Because (1)there's nothing like it, (2)it provides a wonderful opportunity for contemplation, and (3)it's quiet and a nice break from crowds of tourists and honking cars.

I love Ile St. Louis, the small island behind Ile de la Cite. Quiet, classy (once later in the evening, we heard an operatic baritone singing from an upstairs window, a true Magical Moment), and great food, including Berthillon ice cream. La Charlotte de l'Isle has the most incredible hot chocolate in the world, made only with chocolate and milk (or perhaps cream?). Also, Ile St. Louis has small parks at either end, great for picnics.

Hi Sue. My faves are walking along the Seine from the Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower, the Tower is such a thrill for me and seeing it from a distance is the best for me. The Bridges are works of art.

The food markets are another thing I love; the food is an art form, the smells, and the tastes, all fantastic. It is wonderful to see how the Parisians shop at the markets. I bought a book on the markets but there is a lot of info online listing days of the week, location of the market and times open.
