Favorite Paris markets?

What are your favorite markets in Paris? We love markets and we'll be there in winter, staying in Montmartre.

Agree with Sharon--love the markets along Rue Mouffetard. The merchants are so friendly and helpful. Rue Cler is constantly mentioned as being really special but I prefer Mouffetard. Rue de Buci in the St Germaine area is a nice little market street.

Saturday mornings on the Cour de Vincennes, just east of Place de la Nation. Best market in Paris in my estimation. Plus, you will be in an area with, I can almost guarantee, virtually no other tourists, just Parisians going about their business. Be adventurous.

There are so many wonderful ,markets in Paris. You could go to 5-6 a day. There is a wonderful coffee table book that tells about the food markets....... it is called "Paris in a basket." Great book, tells all the metro stops and where all the markets are and has recipes, too. These are my 2 favorites. 1. President Wilson Market.. metro stop is Iena... days are Wednesday and the big day is Saturday. 2. The Saxe Breteuil market... metro stop is Avenue Saxe or it is right behand the Ecolie Militaire on Ave Saxe and the days are Thursday and Saturday. We also love the brocante markets. The one that the Parisians prefer is Porte de Vanves at the metro stop of the same name.. open on Saturday and Sunday , get there early, different people sometimes on the 2 days.It is fantastic. Incredible old French items of all sort.Great prices.. Jane

If you like food markets, visit the Bastille (Richard Lenoir) market on Sunday. It is huge and there is a great selection.

My favorite food and misc stuff (clothes, scarves, purses, wallets, etc) market is right outside the La Motte Picquet-Grenelle metro on Saturday, and I believe, Wednesday.

My favorite market is the Bird Market on Saturday mornings on a square south of Notre Dame (it's where the flower market ordinarily is - check out RS). I love seeing the French men and women fuss over their beautiful birds. They have some very unusual canaries (noirs).

I second the suggestion of the La Motte Piquet Grenelle market. I was there a couple months ago--it is open until 2 pm on Sunday and Wednesday. It's right out side the metro station (under the elevated metro tracks). It's just a few minutes walk to/from the Eiffel Tower.
