favorite lunch places in Paris

Can anyone help us with some suggestions for good value lunch places in Paris? We'll be there the week of the 18th of May. This is our first trip to the city and would appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance.

Bob, You might want to delete your duplicate Thread on this subject, before it attracts any replies. It will be easier to keep everything in the same Thread. Cheers!

Skip any restaurants or cafes near sightseeing. Walk a few blocks away and shop/eat where the Parisians go. A great walking street for a pick up hot lunch begins at Place St Michel in the Latin Quarter at the Seine River. Choose the gyros stand at the place or stroll down Rue St Andres des Arts all the way to Rue de Buci. You will find food shop windows selling crepes, croque monsiers (open face hot ham and cheese sandwiches), shish kebab, etc. On Rue de Buci you will find an all day outdoor market. And there are plenty of pastry shops to pick up your dessert. This is also a fun shopping street. Good value lunches are ones you put together yourself! Pick up sandwich makings at the deli (charcuterie), bakery (boulangerie), etc. You don't have to know the names of these small businesses, you can just see the food in the windows. Point at what you want, show how much you need with your fingers, etc. Choose fruit or a drink at a small grocery or outdoor market Bring your Swiss Army Knife to cut the meat/cheese or open the bottle of wine. Also tuck a napkin into your day bag to spread your lunch. If you are on Ile St Louis or Ile de la Cite (the islands in the heart of Paris), pick up your lunch on Rue St. Louis en I'Îsle (on Ile St Louis). Walk to the Northern end of the Ile St Louis to the small park on the lower level or the beautiful Place Dauphine at the end of Ile de la Cite. Note, too, that the banks of the Seine, steps below street level are also wonderful places to eat your lunch and watch the world go by. Bon appetit!

Two places for lunch that we never miss: Las du Fallafel and Taverna Henri IV (at the Pont Neuf Bridge).

The big department stores on Boul. Haussman, Printemps and Galleries Lafayette, both have excellent & very pretty restaurants on the top floors, as well as nice and less expensive cafeterias. If you happen to find yourselves in that area, seek them out.
