Favorite Luberon Village?

HI! I am thinking about heading to the Luberon but am unsure of which "quintessential" village to stay in .....hopefully one of the "Prettiest villages" , something small enough, but with a nice little town and not totally touristy.

What are your favorte Luberon villages and why?

You might want to read A Year In Provence by Peter Mayle, in which he describes the Luberon in a highly readable way (it was a travel best seller).Rick's favorite is Roussillon.Other choices are good, too. Good descriptions in Hill Towns of the Luberon chapter of Rick's book, Provence & Riviera.

Hi Linn.. We stay in Isle-sur -la- Sorgue. Read all about it in Steves. This little town is neat because it is close to all the Luberon villages and all the Cotes de Rhone villages. It does have a train station, but we always drive down from Paris. Very easy on the A6 and A7.It has these little waterways and is called the Venice of Provence. We stay at the Hotel Nevons.

My favorite village is Lourmarin, population less than 1000. Has the distinction of one of the prettiest villages in France. Great booklet called "Provence Byways" written by Steve and Sue Winn, an American couple who use to live there, that outlines a number of day trips originating from Lourmarin meandering through the Luberon. You will need to Google to find their contact info. I stay at the B&B LaCordiere, quaint, built around 1600, and very reasonable.
