favorite hotel in Lucerne?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel in Lucerne? We'll be there for 3 days next August & are looking for something for $200 or less. Quaint & atmospheric would be great, but not crucial. Close to the train station would be a plus. Thanks.

We try to keep our hotel nights at $100, so maybe you're looking for something a little more luxurious, but we stayed at The Hotel Pension Rosli (2 stars) and it was fine. Check-in was at the 3-star Hotel Baslertor, owned by the same people, where you can probably get a nice room for $200 or less. These are less than a half mile from the train station.

Hotel des Alpes boasts a wonderful location, at the foot of the covered bridge, just across the river from the train station. Breakfast is wonderful with a balcony option. Rooms are okay, not luxurious, but you won't find better in Luzern for the price. Price for 3 nights in May was 613 SF, about $200 a night.

The Hotel Krohn was a great find for us - to our surprise it was a mimi-apartment with full kitchen, large bathroom, and large living room/sleeping room. The price was around $140/night, and was only a few blocks from the train station. We booked the room on HRS

Jean and Dwight, I recall a "Crown" hotel on one of the main squares. It looked wonderful from the outside, but I have not been in. As Dwight described it, it sounds wonderful, especially the price. I wanted to check it out on tripadvisor.com. I would find no Hotel Krohn. Same result on google. There is a Best Western Hotel Krone which appears to be quite expensive. I checked for a night in April and found it to be $200 a night whereas the Hotel des Alpes was $110. Maybe Dwight can clarify the spelling. Is the Best Western the wrong facility?

Hello,

I stayed at the Hotel des Alpes in March. We even got a double room with a balcony for less than $200/night. Not sure if it will be more expensive in the August timeframe. It is also close to the train station.

We stayed at Hotel Drei Koenige which is easy walking distance from the old town center and on the same side of the river as the train station. Current rate is around $129/night with double occupancy. Looking at the map on Hotel.com, it is about 750 yards from the train station. Coming out of the train station on Bahnhofstrasse, go left along the river until it becomes Ruetligasse and when you cross Hirschengraben, veer slightly left to continue on Klosterstrasse. The hotel is on the right at the end of the block. The exterior is cute with a turreted corner, but the rooms are modern. There is a supermarket up the street (turn right as you exit the hotel), but if you are there on a market day, the market along the river is fantastic for putting together a picnic. For a really touristy, but fun lunch, the Stadtkeller (in the old town across the river) does a show with yodeling, alphorns, etc. I normally don't go in for this sort of thing, but this one is kind of a family tradition for my family.

We were happy with the Hotel de la Paix It's close to the old city wall and the Lion Monument, maybe 9 or 10 minutes walk from the Bahnhof. Double room is around 250 CHF - maybe US$225 or so.
