Favorite Hostel in Paris

What is your favorite hostel in Paris, and where is it located? My daughter is looking for a hostel for 3 people in Paris. We tried to book her an MIJE hostel in the Marais area of Paris, but they were full.

There was a reference here recently to a hostel in Paris called "oops". I googled it and it looked quite nice. Worth a look.

I stayed at a place called "Le Village" underneath the Sacre Couer. It was clean and comfortable, but the neighborhood was slightly sketchy at night.

There are a TON of crappy hostels in Paris, and only a few good ones. Note that the good ones tend to book fast and cost a lot.

I've said this before to people on this board and it usually attracts criticism, but here goes..

Cindy, if your daughter depends on you for research and booking of a place to stay in Paris, she has no business staying in a hostel.

I hope you are just helping her out and that you have confidence in her ability to travel independently.

I say this because some hostels can be a zoo.

I am staying at St Christophers off and on for 12 days this summer.
Beds are 30 to 34 euros they are new and come highly recomended. They have about 300 beds and like I said Have been in Paris for about 2 years
They are in many European countries. Just copy link to your browser and click on Paris.
They are in the 19th district but 10 minuets away from downtown by Metro.

Thank you all for your responses; they are very helpful. Has anyone ever stayed at the Young and Happy Hostel, and if so, what is your opinion?

I am only helping my daughter, because she has been working and going to school at Purdue University, and she hasn't had any time to plan this trip. She just finished school, but she is now recovering from oral surgery. She is very independent, and I have no worries about her taking care of herself in Europe. However, her trip is in 2 1/2 weeks, and I am trying to help her prepare. It is one of the few times she has ever asked me for my help.

An 18 yr old from my work spent a week last month at the St Christophers hostel and said it was fine, it is not as central as some, but , very new, clean, etc. and she liked it very much. She and her friend have been travelling independently for last 2 months and have no trouble figuring out how to use public transport.

I do agree DD should be doing this herself though, simply put, if YOU suggest something and it is a dump or doesn't work out,, it is YOUR fault,, , if her and friends do same ,, it is an adventure.. word to the wise. Your dd has time to sit on computer for 1/2 hour,, a few times,, I bet she does anyways..

You'll find a lot more reviews on hostels you are interested in by going to a site like hostelworld.com or bugeurope.com.

If you are finding hostels are already booked, you might book a hotel room for your daughter and her 2 friends. For a group of 3, often a budget hotel can cost less than 3 bunks in a hostel. Many online only deals are being offered now.

There is also the option of tourist lodging in a convent or monastery (see one example below). Check first before booking anything to make sure they don't have a lock out late at night. If you book a hostel, make sure they don't have a lock out during the middle of the day when they clean rooms as this can be a pain.
