I'm definitely going to Notre Dame Paris, St Denis, Reims, and Strasbourg; and I've been to Chartres a few times. I'm wondering what folks think of Amiens and Bourges (both the cathedrals and cities), both of which are a little more difficult to get to (no car; will need to use train/bus/taxi). Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Sherry,
I can only comment on Amiens, which I've been to a few times as day trips from Paris; definitely go and see the city and cathedral there. Take the train from Gare du Nord when you're in Paris, it's not a TGV. Amiens is a very nice walking town. For seeing the impressive and beautiful cathedrals, you picked the right places Reims and Strasbourg...I'm more familiar with Strasbourg, Reims I saw only once in August 1984. To get to Reims leave from Gare de l'Est on a TGV.
Sherry, we went to Chartres and Reims when in Paris in 2006. From Reims, we rented a car for the afternoon and drove to Laon. The cathedral is high on a hill; nice hike to get there if you park in town.
