Hi all, I did the Fat Tire Bike Tour to Versailles a few years ago and it was one of the best days of my trip. Thinking about doing their other tour to Giverny this year. Has anyone done it? Being that this is a smaller and simpler site, wondering if we should do the tour, or just go on our own and rent bicycles when we get off the train. With Versailles, I thought the tour guide info, our trip to the market and the chance to see so much of the grounds added another layer of enjoyment but wondering if that would be the case with Giverny.
Thanks so much and happy travels!
Hi France, I have done all the FT bike tours, (over about 4 -5 visits to Paris) . I liked the Night Bike tour and the one to Giverny the best. I enjoyed the one to Versailles, but found we didn't have enough time there, I had been to Versailles several times before, but was with a friend who had never been, so I knew how much we were missing. I still enjoyed it though, and my friend loved it. I did the one to Giverny last year. I loved the more leisurely pace, and the ride was only partially on streets, most was one this country bike /pedestrian lane that wound along a river and passed by homes etc.. it was a nice change from being in a big city. I also found there was more then enough time in the gardens, and I even wandered around outside the gardens for awhile. 'It was also nice to not load the bikes on to the train, so the Giverny tour is very suitable for all types of people. You could easily do it on your own, but I enjoyed the tour, and the visit to the graveyard nearby etc. perhaps something I wouldn't have known about on my own, but with research you could very easily design your own tour. My only thought might be ,, what if you arrive in Vernon and the bike place is out of bikes, I have no idea if this could happen, and if you are reasonalbly fit you could make it a day walk instead.
Either way you do it, I am sure you will enjoy your visit.
