Family Vacation to Spain and France

Hi, I am so glad I found this forum. My family is going to Spain and France next summer for three weeks. We fly into Madrid in early June and fly out of Paris three weeks later. I am trying to figure out what to do during the three weeks we will be there. Something that will work for my wife, me, and our three kids (Ages 8-15). The current plan is: - Five days in Madrid (including two day trips: one to Segovia and one to Toledo) - 3 or 4 days at a laid-back beach resort area. - 3 or 4 days in Barcelona - We then go onto Paris/Normandy/ Versailles, etc. After five days in Madrid/Segovia/Toledo, we will all want a break from architecture, museums, big cities pace. My question is where would you recommend we go for 3-4 days in a laid back beach resort area where the kids could swim, play on the beach, hang by the pool, etc.? I was hoping to find a place after we are done in Madrid and before we head to Barcelona. (Costa Del Sol and that area looks like it is too far away.) Any town/hotel you can suggest that is kid-friendly, plenty to do, beachy, etc.? Thanks!!!

I have not been to it, but one of my Spanish Travel Guides mentions Tarragona, south of Barcelona several miles. Also, Barcelona has several beaches. Suggest you check the net for more information on them. Also, check out The Moon Guide To Spain, Candy Lee Labelle..excellent source of information for all of the country. Can be found on Amazon I believe.

You can also cheat and do both Barcelona and the beach at the same time. Check out Sitges, 20 km from BCN. There are trains runing between the two towns every twenty minutes. It has 17 beaches to pick from! Google Sitges, and go to Trip Advisor to search for lodging reccomendations. In fact, check out apt rentals on VRBO and Homelidays.com sites. Then you can spend more time in Paris etc.

A lot of people might not be comfortable with the overwhelming sexual orientation of a very large percentage of the visitors to Stiges.
