Family of 4 in Paris

I am in need of 1 room at a reasonable price (less than $250/night) for 2 adults and 2 children (5 & 7). Any suggestions outside of VRBO or Air BandB? Every hotel I look at is obnoxiously priced!

Where are you looking? Where do you want to stay-which area? You should have no trouble finding something less than 250 a night. What about gite.com. smaller hotels may charge you two rooms for the kids as their rooms are super small anyway.

Melissa I think there are lots of places under that price range,,but I wonder are you looking for September, if so , its going to be tough, busiest month of the year and people book months in advance. I would go on tripadvisor.com paris forums, enter the words "quad rooms paris" in the search box, there is a thread there where someone kindly compiled a long list of quad rooms in Paris.

Check the Mercure Hotel chain. Some of them let children stay for free in the parents' room, the way US chains do. You'd have to get the larger rooms with the sofa bed, Prestige Room, I think they call it.

Could you tell us what you consider an un-obnoxious price?

Thank you everyone for responding so quickly! We are going to be in Paris at the end of November. I was hoping to find somewhere that is around $200 US per night or less. I am finding that anytime I email a VRBO, the fees go up considerably because they add cleaning, additional person fees, etc. that are not initially advertised in their add on VRBO. For instance, I just got a quote that added an additional 200 EURO for cleaning and for the children. I know there are gems in the city and I am hoping that my fellow traveler's can lead me to them! Melissa I can give you a personal recommendation of a GREAT apartment agency..its Parisbestlodge. Since your kids are small they could share a sofa bed?
PBL has hundreds of great recomendations and reviews, we rented one last year based on the tons of praise on the other forums.. and we loved out place, it was EXACTLY as pictured, and there are no sneaky fees added at all.. Seriously look them up, IF you can get one do not hesitate to snap it up,, Thierry ( the owner/manager) is so kind , he will answer all your questions, he speaks great english, and is a total gentleman.

The <<Ibis Styles>> chain from Accor, the major provider of hotel rooms in France, might fit the bill. I just looked for a random date in the end of November, the 4th Thursday, and see a room at several locations for 2 adults and 2 children your kids' ages for US$179.17 including VAT (Gare de l'Est Chateau, others lower, one higher). That chain, formerly known as <<All Seasons>>, give a good entertainment centre on the large TV, internet available on the TV, free wifi at a decent bandwidth, a simple included brekkie, and usually a reasonably sized room. They are very child friendly. It can be done. It may be easier to look in the local currency, the Euro. $200 today is about €150.

I can usually get an Ibis room for under 55 E if I reserve well ahead of the travel date.

We booked a one bedroom apt thru www.rentalfrance.com with Pascal. It was in Marias section on Rue Paul street with lovely cafes, bakeries, chocolate stores, Monoprix grocery store and fresh markets all within a 2 min walk. Metro close too. Bastille Sat. market was lovely and my girls spent hours there. it had one bedroom and a pull out sofa. I believe we paid thru PayPal 110euro a nite for 7 nights. We bought fresh bread and meats at the market and then made a picnic lunch every day. enjoyed our afternoons of wine and food under the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and the many parks in Paris.

Try vacationinparis.com. We just rented an apartment from them that would work well for your family. For November for 4 people it is $170.00 a night. It is close to Rue Cler and a metro stop. It is their ID# 56. Lots of things included such as free wifi, free phone calls to US, TV, etc. Theie office is in the USA, they have an 800 number, you get the keys before you leave home and you pay in US dollars. Good luck.

Not all apartments charge extra for cleaning. That charge along with any other extra fees or taxes should be included in the listing. I've rented many apartments through VRBO and I make it a point to not choose a place with an addition cleaning fee. Another thing to consider regarding an apartment vs. hotel, especially with children - hotel rooms are typically VERY small. Not much room for kids to play. Also with an apartment you will have a kitchen. That can be a huge money saver. Lastly, an apartment with a washer and hopefully a dryer can help you pack light. Try homeaway.com for apartments. They, like VRBO, are privately owned apartments. Dealing directly with the owner allows you to negotiate things like a charge for the kids. You are traveling in low season so they may be willing to make concessions for you.

We're staying at the Hotel Jeanne d'Arc in the Marais next month. The quad room is 200 euro a night and the location is excellent. The hotel gets very high reviews because of the price and location, but I'm keeping my overall expectations low. My kids are 8 and 10, so we don't need anything fancy.

Hotel Marignan brings back fond memories.. I lived there for a couple months when I was 18 back in '75. I shared an attic room with a friend and we each paid $5 per night which included breakfast. Ahh.. the good ol' days... It's pretty bare bones but it's definitely a great location.

We stayed at the Hotel Jeanne d'arc, twice. One when the kids were small and we all slept in one room with 2 double beds and a big bathroom (the blue room) and recently when the "kids" were adults. We rented 2 rooms. Good location, friendly service, easy breakfast. http://hoteljeannedarc.com/?lang=en
