Is the Fall Swiss Rail Pass (4 consecutive days for $119) available in Switzerland? We will be in Switzerland for 6 days the first week in October and can't decide whether to buy two 4-consecutive-day passes from RS before we depart USA. The price makes this such a good deal we are tempted despite not using the final 2 days. We will be using Lauterbrunnen as our base for travel over the 6 days and hope to get to all the usual RS favorites in the BO valley as well as side trips to Zermatt and possibly Montreux, Bern and/or Lausanne. Any thoughts on rail pass options would be helpful. Thanks.
You might do just as well, for less money, with the 4-day Flex pass, which is also on the 2-for-1 special. This will fully cover four days of train travel (your first, last, and 2 additional days), and give you 50% off for the other two days. If you are riding mountain lifts in the BO those 2 days (Schilthorn, First, Jungfraujoch) this provision of the Flex Pass will give you the same coverage that a Swiss pass would (mountain lifts are 50%, except the Jungfraujoch which is 25% above Wengen). You can buy either one in Switzerland, but compare the prices. The Swiss pass is 113 CHF per person; the Flex is 131 CHF per person. Convert those to dollars to compare to the price on this website, and don't forget to add foreign transaction fees if your credit card has those (around 3% for many credit cards). http://www.swisstravelsystem.com/en/specials-en/2for1-swiss-pass.html
