Does France have an exit tax that one must pay at the airport before leaving the country to return home to US?

I don't think so, but could you refuse to pay it and then be stuck there? Oh, horrors to be forced to spend more time in France.
We were amused that they spent a LOT more time asking us questions when we left. Passport control hardly glanced at us going into the country. Guess they are suspicious of anyone trying to leave La Belle France.
