We want to enjoy the beauty of Paris in the evening with a trip on the Seine. I am confused by the various boat companies. The one that I am looking at is Canauxrama, which I believe is near the Bastille. Is this a good choice, or does anyone have some other suggestions. Nancy
The Canauxrama does the St. Martin Canal - possibly with a turn down the Seine. It's not everyone's cup of tea because of the long waits for canal lock transits and the long dark tunnel (if the cruise takes that route) to the Seine. Bateaux Mouches is one of the big Seine cruises. It offers dinner cruises, but you don't want to pay for dinner - just an evening cruise.
I can't speak to Canauxrama, but another option you may consider is the Bateaux Parisiens cruise. It's an hour-long, narrated cruise, which operates from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm and cost about 11 Euros. Pick up spots are located at Notre Dame (I think) and the Eiffel Tower.
Nancy: Did you find the cruise you want near the Eiffel Tower. What is the name and do you know the cost?
From the Eiffel Tower, walk down to the river. There are several boat cruises from that location that are just the cruise, no dinner. Check it out when you get there.
I've taken Bateau Mouches several times and it is fine. It holds a lot of people and sometimes you have to wait for the next boat but they go once an hour and you don't need reservations. I think that the last boat goes between 10:00 - 11:00 during the summer. FYI - it is always cold on the boat at night. Barb
Nancy You have a great idea in taking a Seine boat ride at night. Paris is known as the City of Light. Their beautiful buildings are lit spectacularly! The sightseeing boats leave from near the Eiffel Tower as well as the the islands. I would pick the departure point closest to your hotel. Depending on the time of the year, darkness will fall at different times. In summer, it could be 9:30 or 10 PM. See the following websites for the boat companies. If you choose Pont Neuf, be sure to check out the statue of Henry IV by the bridge, at night they illuminate his sword so it looks like a light saber!
My choice from Bobbie's list would be Vedettes du Pont Neuf. They use smaller boats so you feel less like you're part of a herd.
I just booked tickets with Vedettes du Pont Neuf. If you get your tickets online in advance, you get a discount. Costs €8 instead of €12. Also, you validate your online tickets at a separate window, i understand, and are able to avoid the line of folks buying tickets. You don't have to specify a time, just use the tickets whenever you wish.
