Eurostar or British Midland Flights

I posted this on the Transportation Board but thought I would repost here incase it gets overlooked there.

So we have never taken the Eurostar before and I am wondering how great [or bad] it is versus flying. To fly with British Midland from Paris to East Midlands Airport they only have two flights a day, one at 0945 and one at 1935hrs. But its a one hour flight and gets us to an airport that is only a 40 minute bus ride or even quicker car ride to where we want to go. Whereas Eurostar only gets us to London then we have to take another train up to Nottingham. And the prices seem pretty excessive for the UK portion of the train ride. Just wondering if anybody has any experience flying BMI Baby from Paris and would we face any difficulties getting to the airport in time for a mid morning flight? There is quite a cost and time saving by taking the flight though would Eurostar be worth it just for the experience Cheers Pete

Pete -

Given your final destination is Nottingham versus London I would recommend the flight. Traveling from London to Nottingham will feel like crawling after the Eurostar because the Brits are still working on bringing high spped trains to the island.

The experience is okay - but only two hours. I like to remind people that the Chunnel - is after all a tunnel - thus dark for 19 minutes. :o)

BMI is a decent airline with good service.

Pete I am in Paris right now, and rode the Eurostar via London. Its no different than any other train ride. I splurged and rode upper class (not quite 1st but above 2nd). I got fed, provided plenty of drinks, and it was fun, but not awesome fun.

If you want to ride the Eurostar just to say you did... then do it. If I had to do it again I'd take a plane. Faster and still same amount of time you have to give yourself to check in.

Hi there, thanks for the responses. We will probably fly as it will be such a time saving for us. The cost is better and we figured that we can take the early evening flight from Paris and that would give us nearly a whole day extra in Paris.
