EUROPEAN WEATHER

Real winter-like already. Train schedules are all skewed due to cold/snow. London is a mess.

My husband drove from our home in Germany to Oxford England last Wednesday. The leg of his journey from our home to the ferry crossing at Calais that normally takes 4 and half hours took him 15 hours (five hours alone were spent stationary outside Brussels) and once in England he had to spend the night in his car on the M25 London Orbital along with many other stranded motorists. Flying seems to be the best way of getting around although there are long delays and some airports are closed. Some trains, especially in Scotland and northern England were also not running. My father always told me never to drive in snowy conditions without a blanket, a spade and a hipflask of whisky in the trunk (the latter obviously only to be consumed in the case of near death from hypothermia, although this may be a falacy) In any event be prepared and take extra layers with you when driving.

In winter time in Quebec drivers are told to always have in the car a shovel, a blanket, a candle and some matches, and a candy bar or two.

Where's that global warming when we need it?

Serious cold already here in the midwest US. Even FL has frost warnings.

Jeff, I know you are tongue in cheek, but its interesting that it is the global warming and its effects on the currents which cause the extremes both ways.....

Yes, we finally got our snow in Madison and are working on catching up with Scotland. ; ) I think that this is the first time that Scotland has had more cold weather and more snow than Madison. ; ) Pam

Well at least the Badgers won't have to worry about snow when they head out west for the Rose Bowl. I'm not a sports person anymore but they beat out the Big Ten headliner schools in record fashion.

Norma, I always pack those items...problem is I usually eat the candy bar before the snow. My daughter lives in Vevey Switzerland along Lake Geneva and they had almost 8 inches of snow.....people were skiing, sledding, boarding down the streets in Lausanne. It looked pretty surreal.
