Seeing how the Euro is now down to 122+ does anyone contemplate higher European restaurant prices? With their mind set being, "let's cash in on an increase in American tourism this summer," as a result of the dollars strength?
American tourism in Europe constitutes only a small fraction of the overall tourism sector. The vast majority of customers are Europeans. "Cashing in on American tourism" would mean to risk chasing away their best customers. Of course, nobody knows for sure how inflation will develop and if that will increase prices this summer or next.
The restaurant business is amazingly competitive and cut-throat. Unless a restaurant carries an impeccable, Michelin-starred reputation, or unless they are really being squeezed by their suppliers, they'll raise prices only at their own peril. They'll usually cheapen the ingredients before they even contemplate raising prices. And think about the cost of altering all those menus...
