For a 2 night stop - buy some Euros (don't know your spending habits?) at an ATM. This will give you cash for a coffee, meal or a taxi, etc. Use your credit card if you find something that you just MUST buy! My friend uses his credit card for everything but we prefer to carry a bit of the local currency on us.

Stop over from where? The cheapest and most convenient way to ALWAYS obtain local currency is a debit card via an ATM. Any other way will range from slightly expensive to very expensive.

I find a credit card the most convenient, especially b/c I get miles with mine. It's also just easier and safer than walking around w/ a lot of cash. That said, I always do have SOME cash w/ me, for, say, stores, restaurants, etc. that don't take cards, but far prefer to pay most of my bills, especially hotel, with a credit card. And agree w/ post above re: exchanging; I haven't "exchanged" money in ages in Europe; I just use the local ATM, as I would at home. You may just want to call your bank/go online, to verify locations, that your code will work, etc. In a major city like Paris, you won't have any problem. Have a great time in Paris; enjoy your 2 days there!

Bring euros!!! Order them from your bank (usually without a fee) and stick them in a money belt. Most credit cards attach a 3% fee per foreign transaction and you are at the mercy of whatever they decide the exchange rate is. Very expensive. I travel to Paris a few times a year and only use cash, never a credit card. Some banks (like B of A) have a "sister" bank (B of A's is Paribas) that will let you use the ATM's with no fees and you get a good exchange rate. Check with your bank on whether they have reciprocity with a local bank. FYI: if you decide to use a credit card make sure you have a four digit passcode - many establishments will have you use the card like a debit card and you'll need the code (yet another reason to just travel with cash!). Bon journee - you'll have a GREAT time.
