Eurail train and car

Has anyone tried the Eurail combo train and car pass?
My wife and I are accompanying our daughter on a three-week youth symphony concert tour of Central Europe (plus). Budapest, Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Vienna, Salzburg, Venice, (maybe Bern), Lyon, Paris. We will use the train for some segments and drive others. Not sure how exactly all that works. Suggestions?

We have done this with the France railpass. Assuming it works the same way, it can be a brilliant organizing principle. You reserve your car(s) for the days you want and pay a pretty low daily rate, even for short-term rentals. And you use the trains for long-haul stuff. Probably, once you have your plan and know what your rental requirements are you should compare the price with what you can get from a consolidator such as Auto Europe, just to be sure you are getting the best deals. Note that some countries have requirements that may add to your expenses, for instance Switzerland requires a driving permit.
