Eurail Time Table

I have my Eurail pass together with the time table. I have a question about the time table. It seems to me that the time table only shows "partial" train schedules. For example: For Heidelburg – Frankfurt – Leipzig – Dresden – Praha hl.n departure at 18:46 and arrive at 9:28. I cannot find the connections in the time table. Should I treat the time table as just a reference, and the online information should be the final accurate data? Please advise. Thanks.

Eurail only shows the limited number of trains for which they sell marked-up tickets. For an evening train from Heidelberg to Prague, those are the exact connections that you listed. For the complete schedules of all German rail, go to the Deutsche Bahn website: http://www.bahn.de For a much less painful way to reach Prague from Heidelberg, unless you absolutely want to travel at night, you can go via Frankfurt to Nürnburg and catch a bus to Prague from there. It's a 7 hour trip, versus the 14 hour overnight slog that Eurail is showing you.

Thank you very much for your info. I might have to take the night train to save a day time for sightseeing. I guess I just have to print out some of the train schedule I need before my trip. As for now, I don't see the time table from Eurail pass will give me much help. Thanks again.

"I might have to take the night train to save a day time for sightseeing. " With 3 transfers over night, you're going to lose a day anyway, because you'll be too tired to do much of anything the next day.

None of those four trains are night trains, with sleeping facilities. Because the trip spans two calendar days, you will burn two days of your rail pass (unless it is a consecutive day global pass). The trip by those trains takes almost 15 hours. You can do it in 7½ hours by taking express trains to Nürnberg (change in Frankfurt) and then taking the Bahn Intercity bus from Nürnberg to Prague. There is a €15 surcharge to use your rail pass in 1st class with the bus. Tom, Eurail does not sell tickets, only rail passes. RailEurope sells tickets, at a handy markup.

George, I don't recall ever taking the included timetable that came with my passes...Rick Steves may say it's good enough for him in his programs, but it's not good enough for me! Do go to each countries' website for train timetable info if you need a really intricate route. Deutsche Bahn is the best all-around for timetable info for all of Europe, and will probably show you every route you need. And before you leave each train station that you arrive at, check their current departure schedules against yours; there may be some fine - or not so fine - differences. Go to Europe with printouts of any train schedules you might need. Pay attention to the dates of service in the timetables - some trains only run on M-F, every day except Sat, etc. Do be aware of any passholder supplements you may have to pay (as opposed to just 'hopping-on/hopping-off' any ol' train).

Obtaining a printed timetable for Deutsche Bahn probably is not practical. There's simply too many trains, running too frequently, to too many places . You can pretty much go from point A to point B at any time of day, except late at night. However, it might help for you to know when your fastest options depart. Once again, that's why I recommend using the DB website. Plug in your itinerary and see what's available.

Thanks again everyone. You all have been very helpful. That is very good idea to have print out of train schedule I need and compare with the current schedules when I get to their stations. I will check out the http://www.bahn.de. Thanks again.
