i know the eurail pass can get you a number of added bonuses, such as passage on the city transports systems in some places. does the eurail pass cover the the metro in paris at all? what about amsterdam? what about car rental discounts?

From the outskirts of Paris, the ticket booth person gave us metro passes to get into the city when I showed him my pass. But that was only a one-time deal; we had to buy metro passes once we left the "tunnels". Didn't use Eurail in Amsterdam; rode cheap city buses.
thanks, i think we may skip the eurail pass. at every turn, it seems to look less and less like the way to go for our trip.
