enough time for layover in Amsterdam airport??

On a flight from Nice to Detroit I have a layover of one hour and five minutes in Amsterdam. My flight is in the middle of the afternoon on Wednesday, October 1. Assuming my flight is on time, is this enough time to connect in Amsterdam? I have never been to this airport before so I don't know how big/and or confusing it is. Will I have to go throught customs coming from France and flying to the US? Thanks for any help on this.

If your flight from Nice is NOT on a discount airline and you don't have any checked baggage, you might be able to make it, especially if the lines at the immigration check aren't long. But it is risky. You will also have to print out your AMS-DTW boarding pass from a PC the night before; this way, you won't have to wait on line at the transfer desk. Also at AMS security checks for tranatlantic flight are conducted at the gates instead of a centralized area, so if you can make it to the gate before the doors close on the plane, you're good. Schipol Airport is housed in one big building so if everything works right you could get lucky.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, Michael. I would not have remembered to print out my boarding pass ahead of time. We are flying Northwest/KLM all the way. We will have one checked bag but since we are on our way home I won't be too concerned if my bag is a few days behind me. I just don't want to incur any more expense if we miss our connection and are put on a later flight.

If both flights are part of the same ticket/itinerary, and you do miss your flight to DTW, the airline will have to put you up at a hotel at their expense. Also, if everthing is on the same ticket, you won't have to print out your boarding pass via a PC, you will get your boarding pass for AMS to DTW at Nice when you check-in.

You've been a big help, Michael, and now I will quit worrying about this connecton. Anyway, a night in Amsterdam is not such a bad proposition. Thanks!!

A one-hour layover at AMS could easily result in a missed connection for your checked luggage. It might be helpful to record your luggage color, style, brand, and contents in advance, so you can give accurate information to the KLM agent in Detroit. Also make sure each piece of luggage is clearly tagged with your name. As for yourself, while shuffling through AMS passport control, keep an eye on the overhead monitors. They will list any imminent departures, and if your flight is shown, you can move to a special passport line with no waiting.

Thanks, Lamont. I will be sure to tag my bags inside and out and to have a good description ready -might even take a photo of it. I've never connected in Europe so didn't realize how tight this was at first. Why do airlines put together legs of a trip that have little chance of working???
