Would like to visit subject museum to see technology exhibits. Have they an English language guide for rental, similar to audio guide offered by Nurnburg's Nazi Documentation Center?
Joe, Just to clarify, are you referring to the Deutsches Museum? I don't recall any language issues in touring the Museum (can't remember if I rented an Audioguide?). There are over 16 kM of exhibits, so plan on spending some time there!
Ken- Indeed I am. The one located on an island in the Isar River at Museumsinsel 1 80538 Munich, Germany 089 21791
I realize it's huge, which is why my interest is exclusively centered upon rail and sea transportation exhibits...I've only got three hours max to devote to the stop! However, if explanations of exhibits are only rendered in German, I may choose to skip it.
Since you're interested in a specific part of their collections I'd send them an email and ask about the availibility of an English language audioguide or captions for these particular exhibitions: http://www.deutsches-museum.de/en/contact/
While "Deutsches Museum" does in fact mean "German Museum", it is bilingual. The exhibition texts appear in two languages: German and English. This is from the website of the Deutsches Museum.. The website also has a listing of exhibits closed for renovation, and when. You might want to refer to it.
My thanks to all. My question is answered by Lee's reference to the museum web-site, which I should have checked first!
I visited the Deutsches Museum last fall. I spent an entire day and felt I'd seen enough, but I didn't see it all. There is a model train exhiblit, buy I don't remember anything else on rail. There is also a maritime exhibit. I think it is closed right now, might be reopening soon. Since you sound somewhat technically oriented, I would suggest the bridge building exhibit. Also, no matter what, don't miss the aeronautics exhibit. They have a Fokker Triplane, a Messerschmidt 109, the first German (WWII) jet fighter, and an F-104, amongst other aircraft - also a V-1 and V-2.
