Eisenstadt and Esterhazy

I am starting to plan a trip to Austria for early-mid September - I hope I'm not too late! I'm a big classical music fan and I see that I will be there during the Haydn festival at Esterhazy. If we attend an evening concert, would we need to stay in Eisenstadt, as opposed to making it a day trip from Vienna? I prefer not to rent a car - so also want to know if Esterhazy is in walking distance of train station. Thanks!

Maybe you have already worked all of this out... But I just wanted to say that you will have a great time! Eisenstadt is a great little town and very pretty. If you come in the daytime, there is super museum in the house that Haydn used to live. It takes about 45 min to drive to Vienna, so I guess it would depend on if you are comfortable driving at night (seeing road signs, etc). If by Esterhazy, you mean the Esterhazy palace in Eisenstadt, then yes, I think it should be within walking distance from the train station.

Agree with Paula- delightful town, outstanding museum, a great place to visit and enjoy amazing music. We took a tour bus and stopped there on the way to Budapest. Enjoy!

Thank you! I couldn't get a hotel but booked a vacation rental and we have tickets to two concerts - it should be fabulous!
