I love watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle on the hour after dark. I would appreciate any suggestions for sitting and watching this beautiful light show. We are going this winter and need both outdoor as well as inside ideas.
Anywhere close is cool. We just came back from Paris. Went up the tower during the day, about 5pm then walked down the river to see the smaller verison of the Statue of Liberty. After that we walked back toward the tower, ate dinner a couple blocks away and then went back to the tower in time to see it light up. The strobe light effect light show happens at night begining on every hour for 5 minutes. Don't miss that! There's lots of grass in the area to sit if it's decent in winter.
If you happen to be visiting the Arc de Triomphe at dusk, you could go to the top to watch the Eiffel Tower light show. The Museum Pass comes in handy at times like this.
Pab,
For a good view of the Eiffel Tower, I was also going to suggest the top of the Arc de Triomphe.
Happy travels!
Across the river from the Trocadero is a good option nearby. For a more distant view, you can see the tower, and much of the rest of Paris, from the top of Montmartre, although you can only see the tower from a certain angle. Your options for indoor views are more limited. The Centre Pompidou has an observation deck that gives you good views of the city. I would guess you can also get a good view from the skyscrapers in the Defense section of the city... but I doubt you would want to travel to Paris to spend time in this area of the city.
We were taken to Trocadero by local friends. Very good viewpoint
cross the siene and near the metro stop (alma- marceau) there is a 5 way intersection just as you walk over the bridge....you will then see a red canopy for this cafe called Devez...get a table outside and you have the best view with good food and drink...or just have drinks then go else where for dinner after...i happen to just be walking all over paris one night and came upon this place and forgot that there was even a light show and the timing was great...best thing is too once your done, you can either walk down avenue George V over the Champs Elysees or jump on the metro and head else where for the rest of your night
Pab, My favorite view of the 9:00 light show is actually from on the Eiffel Tower itself. My photos looking up from the first level are really fun, and when there is a crowd down below, you can hear everyone clapping and yelling right when the show starts. Then we joined the crowd below along the river for the 10:00 lights. I also love the view from behind the fountains at Trocadero Park. Been to Paris 5 times but never in winter; so I don't have any recommendations for inside. Have a wonderful time!
