Eiffel Tower timing

I plan to buy tickets online for the Eiffel Tower, for which I must specify a time and a date. Since I want to climb up to the second level and take the elevator to the top from there, would I have to buy a separate ticket onsite for the climb? Also, is the ticket keyed to the time the elevator takes off? That is, should the time I arrive at the base of the tower coincide with the time on the ticket? Do I have to check in with my electronic ticket when I arrive? I need an answer ASAP! Please help!

For such specific questions, why don't you bite the bullet and call them? I did, when the website would not accept my cell phone number (which they use as a personnal ID number). I got a quick answer. If the call cost me $1, I'd be surprised.
