Eiffel Tower tickets

Just tried to buy advanced tickets for the Eiffel Tower. It says that one of the elevators are broken, so fewer tickets can be purchased online, and the dates we were going to be in Paris aren't available. Does anyone have any knowledge of this or good solution? Also, has anyone stood in line lately at the Eiffel Tower? If so, how long was the wait? Is it better to go in the morning or afternoon? It's been 10 years since I've been up the Eiffel Tower, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My daughter and I stood in line on March 26th. We arrived at the Eiffel Tower at 10 am (we were there to meetup with Fat Tire Bike Tours)..the lines were ....yikes! We came back after our bike tour at around 2...the line to purchase the tix to walk up to the second level we stood in for about 20 minutes. So, I would say afternoon. I can't comment on the line to buy tix for the elevator...but the line was not so long in the afternoon (but the stairs line was still much shorter).

My sister and I passed through the area of the Tower on March 29 at about 1030 hrs. Saw the result of one elevator being nonfunctional - lines like those at Disneyland in the U.S. And that was during the shoulder season! I can imagine what it would be like in high season. As for a solution, the only suggestion I could make is to take the stairway if you are really set on going up onto the tower. Otherwise, my sister and I went to Montmatre which costs nothing and in my opinion is a much better view looking south over the city instead of east into the sun from the tower.

Thanks Kevin, I agree with you. I've been on the tower 4 or 5 times, but my 9 year old daughter is the one driving this! I'm trying to be a good dad! HAHA Actually my favorite view is from atop the Arc de Triomphe.

We just returned from Paris, stayed near the Tower from April 26 to May 2....that includes the national Labor Day holiday May 1. Many French tourists in town for the weekend, Monday and Tuesday. We checked lines daily---a horrendous site, three hour waits was the word including the wait on level two for the second elevator on to the top--- and decided to do the stairs if a good weather day happened upon us! Which it did....May 1. At 9:15 we waited probably twenty minutes and were on level one by 10:00. Lucky, and certainly not what we'd have expected! There are two lines to buy tickets to take the stairs to levels one and two. Some confusion, one was very long, the other much shorter. You can walk levels one and two and then take the elevator on to the top if you buy that ticket. People we stood in line with took that option. We were happy with the climb (we aren't young, just in good shape) to the lower two levels; nothing difficult, just didn't look down! Cost was 5 euros.
