Eiffel Tower

My husband and I will be in Paris for the first time the last week of June this year. Of course, we plan to go up in the Eiffel Tower and wonder, because summer is a busy season, should we buy tickets ahead of time? We would like to see it to take and both daylight and evening so this would obviously mean going early evening?

Christine, I can't advise on purchasing tickets, but what time you go depends on how long you plan to spend there and what you mean by early evening. Be aware that in Paris during the last week of June the sun doesn't set until almost 10 p.m.

I was there in late July of 2010, as was very happy I got my tickets ion advance. Long lines otherwise. With the prepurchased tickets, our wait in line was under 20 minutes

If you decide to purchase an advance ticket, you may want to go ahead and do so. They currently have one elevator out because of a technical incident. Their website gives no indication when they expect it to be corrected. But currently, on the web site, the earliest date for which you can purchase a ticket is June 16th.

Two problems: 1. What if the weather stinks at your prebooked time? 2. If the sun sets at ten, the end of nautical twilight (the time at which you can no longer see the horizon) will be around eleven thirty at that latitude. That's a long time up there if you really want picutres in the true dark. The good part is that you'll be there during the expanded operating hours so you'd be okay on time. I'm pretty sure the last admission is at midnight and the last elevator to the top is an hour earlier. It's been a long time since I've walked over that way in the summer, so I can't guess what the lines would be like even real late in the evening - - spring and fall the night lines are almost nothing.
