Eifel tower reservations

Is it helpful or important to make reservations to climb the tower? I would assume that you can do it online. Thanks Barb

The problem with reservations is you never know what the weather will be like on that day until you get to Paris. Once you buy a ticket you are stuck going at that time.

There are plenty of excellent tour groups that take you there, you eat at the restaurant, and take a cruise on the Seine. The wait is 0.

The website says "Stair entrance tickets are not sold online"...

You know that you haven't been able to take the stairs all the way to the top since the mid-seventies, so you still have to deal with the elevator lines eventually, right? Go at night on the day that suits you and the weather is good. The lines are shorter and the view is more spectacular.

We bought tickets online, which let us jump ahead of the line for the first elevator (the one that goes to the 1st & 2nd floors), and of course we didn't have to stop and buy a ticket when we got there. However, there was still about a 5-10 minute wait for the elevator up, then you have to walk around to another line/elevator to get to the very top. That one was probably a good 15-20 minute wait. This was around 6:30pm in early March. I would estimate that we saved ourselves probably 20-30 minutes of waiting in lines by buying the tickets in advance. However, it was cold, windy and raining when we went - I was nervous they might actually close the top level in which case we would've been out the money for the pre-booked tickets, although fortunately that didn't happen. In our case, the reservation was worth the gamble as we had so little time in Paris, that it wouldn't have helped to wait for a better day.

Barb, We were there in July, with a family of five. No wait to climb, only a wait for the elevator, which we did not choose to take. We had read Rick's Paris book and took his advice on the view.
We went in the evening, Ed is correct that the view is spectacular. After you leave the tower, head over to the Trocadero (may have misspelled that), and get some great shots of the Tower with the lights glowing. Beth
