Eguisheim or Colmar or Both???

We will be driving from Luxembourg city to Interlaken. We would love to see one or both cities. Which one would you recommend to see, for sights, beauty and places to eat. Since they are so close to each other, we think we could see both. How long should we spend in each place? Thanks!

Sorry, I'm confused. Do you want to know about Luxembourg City Luxembourg the country in 4 areas Interlaken The countryside around Interlaken Eguisheim The Alsatian Wine Route or
Colmar? You say one or both. One or both which please? (I have been to all so wish to only respond on those you wish answers to).

The two towns are right next to each other. Colmar of course is much larger and thus has many more sights, places to eat, etc. Eguisheim is very charming & beautiful as are most of the villages in Alsace, especially along the "route des vins d'Alsace", the wine road. Our favorite village was Riquewihr. You could easily spend 2-3 days in that area and not run out of things to see and do.

I actually think of all the towns and villages on the route des Vins we prefer Eguisheim above all others. It has an easy car park just outside the walls and then three concentric streets go off the Grand Rue which goes straight through the town. What we really enjoyed was walking the three concentric streets. OK, they're not streets like in New York City. There are many places where I could practically reach out my arms and touch both sides, and the cobblestones are quite large and uneven. There are little (much smaller - barely wide enough for a person to walk - ) alleys between them. The outer one, over much of its length, unofficially calls itself the Rue des Peinteurs, and there are several artists painting at most times who are happy to sell their work. The shapes, colours, textures of that wonderful town are well worth visiting. Colmar is neat, has a properly confusing one way scheme which can really perplex drivers, with a nice centre to walk in and several nice hotels and restaurants. As you have a car I would suggest staying, if you can afford it, in one of the villages, Eguisheim or another. We stayed off the route on the other side of Colmar in an Ibis because that was all that was left and cheap, too. We had a great time both sides of the Rhine. Without a car, I know you have one, I think it would be more difficult.
