Hi: we stayed at the hotel in June and we were very happy with the accomodation and location. The room was large, clean, quiet and comfortable. The bathroom was also very large and well appointed. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is directly across from the train station and the Lufthansa bus stop were buses leave frequently for the Munich airport. The breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant was very good and the hotel bar was pleasant. We got a good rate by booking through Expedia. Good luck, nancy

Is there a particular reason you need to be very close to the Main Train Station? The underground metro system in Munich takes you right into the main train station as well as to the airport. Yes, there are nice hotels at the train station, but you will find a much nicer part of Munich if you stay around the Marienplatz or the Viktualienmarkt both of which have easy access to the underground metro system.

I have stayed in both locations and while the main train station may not be particularly dangerous, it's rather seedy with bars and strip joints dotted all around...

I just returned a couple of weeks ago from Munich and we stayed in a hotel not too far from the train station (Landwehrstrasse). While our hotel was OK, the area wasn't. Our destination each day was the Marienplatz and it was a 30-minute walk, passing 3 sex shops along the way. Not my idea of a nice walk, considering we had children with us.

Thanks, Alexandra, for backing me up. Yes, the train station area is rather seedy. Much nicer areas exist.

oooooh...a hot topic !
there is a reason I want to be near transportation as I am not able to walk great distances with suitcases etc and have a limited budget so do not want to have my resources unecessessarily depleted by taxi rip-offs...so...the Wolff looked close and doable...though I do prefer the most ambience I can afford !
thanks for the suggestions...if the marienplatze area is easy to access by local transport without TOO much effort I will look into hotels there...

For the past four years, my wife and I have stayed at either the Mark Hotel or the ArtHotel, both across from the station. At NO time did we feel unsafe or even the least bit uncomfortable. I'll be honest - I never even noticed any sex shops. Bars, yes, but in-your-face sex shops? Sorry, overlooked them.

Two of the sex shops were actually in the Turkish district, though I wouldn't necessarily call it a ghetto. The third, a Beate Uhse, was right on the main street close to Karlsplatz.

Yes, we Americans are really looked at as prudes by Europeans. Though I really didn't want to explain to my niece 'what those people were doing' on the window dressings, at least it's a bit tamer than the pornographic garbage found on many German TV channels. And yes, I have actually shielded my own kids' eyes from porno-postcards while walking through the Frankfurt airport.
