Eastern France

My wife and I are planning to visit France in June, starting with Paris, along the Northern area and then to Provence along the French Alps. We were wondering if there are any special attractions or places to visit on our way down along the Alps or perhpas would it be best to go From Brittany through the Loire valley, Dordogne etc.... Making my itinerary is like throwing darts on the map. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated Thanks

Andre, it's all good, but I would say that the Dordogne and nearby areas are really great. Whatever you decide, be sure to allocate a generous chunk of time to that region. Rather than throwing darts, read a few good guidebooks. You never know what will really grab you until you see it, but this will improve your odds of having the best trip possible for you & yours.

My choice would be to consider Annecy and Chamonix area. On a beautiful bright sunny day, Mount Blanc shouldn't be missed along with the luge rides outside of Chaminox proper. Haven't been to Lyon yet, has received quite a bit of attention on this board lately.

Hi Andre, you didn't mention how long you'll be traveling, but Rick has a couple good itineraries in the France guidebook which I used for a 3 week trip, with minor modification. Basically Paris to Normandy to Loire to Dordogne to Carcassonne to Provence to Antibes to Chamonix and back to Paris, in a car with a teenager. Grab the book and check it out, as I was in your situation; we liked everything we saw, regretted we did not have more time.

Thanks. Rick's itineary is what is guiding our trip. My wife will be along for 2 weeks and I will be staying an extra week in Aiguines as I signed up for a course at the Escoulen school. Two weeks allows us to do only half of his itnerary from Normandy to Provence. We are leaning to come down through Loire region, Dordogne etc.. but I still haven't ruled out the Alps side of France. Thanks for your comments.
