Has anyone ever been in Berlin over Easter weekend? What is open/closed? Any previous experiences/advice is welcome. Thanks!
Easter is still very traditional many sites will be closed. But restaurants are doing Easter brunch, lunch and dinner. Reservations may be required. Are you traveling with children? If so there is an Easter Egg hunt in the Tiergarten near Brandenburg Gate.
If you are young and "fun" with no kids with you, then that's when the Berlin leather and fetish festival is going on. Though that has a big gay scene there are many heteros that attend.
I was there over Easter weekend 2005 and seem to recall many of the museums/sights were closed on Sunday and may have had shortened hours over the weekend (? might need to check specific websites for that info). On Easter Sunday we spent the day touring the Jewish museums.
"Easter Monday" is also a holiday as you probably know....that means stores and department stores are closed.
Thanks everyone, I decided to go a little later and skip Easter, since I'll only have a few days in Berlin I want to make sure I'll be able to see everything I want and not feel confined by the holiday schedule.
