We are travelling over Christmas and have booked a flight into Munich (4 days), then will go to Salzburg (4 days) and are flying out of Paris. How would you all recommend getting from Salzburg to Paris? We are a family of four. The overnight train seems pricey. Should we just cut Salzburg a day short and return to Munich or head into Vienna? I'm going crazy just thinking about running around with the kids (ages 7 and 9) but don't know how else to do it. Thanks for your advice all.....
You could get a flight out of Salzburg or Munich to Paris for about the same as the train. Depends on time of day, day of the week, etc. There's a non-stop Stuttgart to Paris train, you could take the train from Salzburg to Stuttgart (you'd probably have to change in Munich though). Just for reference, you can go Stuttgart to Paris by train or plane for about $100 a person, again depending on day, time, etc. Vienna is completely out of your way.
We did have the same IT back in 2004 & 2008. What we did was train from Salzburg to Vienna, stayed in Vienna then fly into Paris. You can each take a day out of your stay in Munich and Salzburg and stay in Vienna. You will love Vienna too. We use one of the European Airlines - very reasonable.
