We are thinking of flying into Dusseldorf and taking the train to Nuremberg for the Christmas market. Has anyone done this. Looking for information on the train and suggestions for places to stay in Dusseldorf and Nuremberg.

Actually, when you purchase the discount tickets (z.B., Dauer-Spezial) online, they send you a pdf file. You can print it as many times as you want. It is also available on the Bahn website under "Meine Buchung". By making the ticket train-specific and requiring your credit card for identification, they prevent you from printing multiple copies and using them multiple times.
I used a Dauer-Spezial-Ticket yesterday for a connection that used three trains (IC/ICE/RB). The first conductor scanned the "barcode" on my ticket, checked my credit card, and stamped the ticket; after that, the other conductors just saw that the ticket was already checked and stampe, and didn't check it anymore.
