DUSSELDORF IN MID NOVEMBER

My boss is going to a trade show in Dusseldorf in mid-November and taking his wife for a few extra days after the show. I've traveled a lot in Germany, but not in Dusseldorf. I'd like to make a few brownie points by telling him what to do and see. I'd like to suggest a drive along the Rhine or Mosel, but will the weather be too nasty to be enjoyable and will places like Rudesheim and Bacharach have businesses open or is that considered a slow season and everything closed up until the Christmas markets start? Failing that, is there anything I can suggest in Dusseldorf that will help them enjoy travel in Europe as much as me? Thanks for your insight!

Have him visit Schloss Dyck (Dyck castle) just outside Neuss for an afternoon. It's one of the loveliest fairy tale castles in the area. Düsseldorf's xmas markets opens on Nov 22nd. Another great idea is to do a little shopping trip in the historical old town of Mettmann just outside Düsseldorf. It's located in the Neander valley where the Neander man once was found. There is a museum where you can see some of the excarvations. Of course they should spend a day in Cologne and also do some of the rhine vally. In Düsseldorf they should climb the Rhine Tower in the late afternoon to overlook the entire city and see how the river meanders thru the city. It's in the media harbor area where there are plenty of great restaurants and bars. They should definitly stroll around the area as it's packed with breathtaking 21st century architecture. There's also one of the best Mongolian BBQ's I've ever been to...

... called Mongo's. They must make reservation at any day but it's really worth it. North of Düsseldorf in the city of Oberhausen is one of the biggest and nicest shopping malls of Germany called CentrO. It is American style but it might just be what his wife likes for some Xmas shopping. But of course the best shopping is on Düsseldorf's Kö-Boulevard. They should also not miss to have a pub crawl in Düsseldorf's old town.
