Dusseldorf

I have 4 hours in Dusseldorf, Germany this summer. I will have 4 children with me.

Does anyone have suggestions of a must-see museum, or I place I must simply eat? An activity on the Rhine? These must be children-friendly! Thanks :)

Are you looking for something to do during a layover at Duesseldorf airport and need to take public transportation into town or do you plan on getting into town and then spend half a day there?

Some suggestions:

Schloss Benrath

A very kid friendly destination is the Aquazoo: http://www.duesseldorf.de/eng/tourism/discover/zoos/index.shtml

Duesseldorf does not have the most interesting stretch of the Rhine for a boat ride but a friend of mine invited me and my kids once to ride our bikes along the shore - and that was wonderful. You can enjoy the pathway and maybe stop in the old town for some gelato or something more substantial to eat.

Yes, we are looking for something to do during a layover--so we will need to think about public transportation.

The zoo sounds great....have you eaten in the Rhine Tower? is it worth the visit?
What about the Old Town area?

During your bike ride, did you come across any public parks that you would recommend?

thanks!

Alexina,

can't help you with places to eat as I'm always staying with friends in Ddorf. Though I can never walk past a gelato store without trying some ;-) Can't say anything about the tower either.

I think both Schloss Benrath and the Aquazoo have very good transit connections to the airport. The old town is also in easy reach. But 4 hours isn't much, I'd only pick ONE destination.
