is it too much to drive from dublin to killarney in one day with a stop at the Rock of Cashel?
Different sites say two hours drive from the Rock to Killarney and one site says 4 hours...big difference.
please, your input.
thank you
ViaMichelin puts it at just over two hours, but it's actually more like three from the Rock of Cashel to Killarney. And from Dublin to the Rock of Cashel is just about the same distance. You should allow at least an hour while at the Rock, unless you just plan to drive by it. If you're talking about doing this on your first day in Ireland, and if you have never driven on the other side of the road before, I'd say it's too ambitious. I've driven there several times, and I wouldn't do it.
I would recommend a stop in Cahir which is near the Rock of Cashel. They have a castle there too, which unfortunately we had to skip when we were there. There is also the Swiss Cottage nearby.
if you think it is too far to travel from dublin to killarney, stopping at the rock of cashel, in one day...where would you suggest we stop for the night?
the second night we will sleep in dingle.
thank you.
We drove from Dublin to Killarney a few years ago, stopped at the Rock of Cashel along the way, and made it to our Killarney B&B before dark. We probably left Dublin around 9:30 - 10:00 AM. We probably spent 1 1/2 - 2 hours at Cashel. I think we got to Killarney around 6:00 PM or so.
On the other hand, we'd driven in Ireland before and were pretty used to "wrong-side" driving.
I agree with Nancy; you don't want to try this drive the day you arrive from the US. Kilkenny is a fairly easy drive from Dublin. Or you could also try driving to the Rock of Cashel.
How feasible the drive is depends a lot on how you handle the time change. Whether you will have a direct flight or not also makes a difference in how tired you will be. Also, do you sleep easily on planeS? If you're not sure, don't chance it.
we will already have been in europe for several days before heading to killarney from dublin...so, does that make it a bit easier in helping us to decide whether to make the trip in one day, knowing we are stopping at the rock of cashel..
thank you
