Next month we are driving to Paris from the UK. We would like to park the car on the outskirts of Paris. I have tried searching for long term parking and have not had much luck. I looked into parking at the airport but it is more than we want to pay (22 euros/day). Does anyone have any suggestions or websites I can check out?
At La Defense there is a lot of public car parking. This site has a list, the cheapest being €14 per day. www.parking-public.fr/parkings_paris-la-defense If you stay at a hotel at La Defense, many of which provide parking (for a fee) it may be more affordable and there is good metro & bus service into central Paris.
Norma, thank you for the info. This is a perfect place for us to park and the rates are more reasonable. Do you know if we can make reservations or do we just show up and hope to find a spot? Also, do you know about how long it will take us to get into central Paris by Metro? We are staying in the Latin Quarter near Notre Dame. Thank you so much again!
Sorry, I don't know whether or not you need to reserve but my guess is that it would be a good idea. Metro Line No. 1 is the line that serves La Defense and I think it would be about a 15 or 20 minute trip to Chatelet in the city centre.
La Defense also has RER service into Paris, which will be faster than the Metro. BUT, beware: while the Metro ride uses a standard Metro ticket or pass, the RER is in zone 3, so you can't get out at La Defense with a standard metro ticket (you'll need to buy a ticket or pass that covers zones 1-3).
