Driving Tips for Southern Spain

During the second week of August, I will be driving from Granada to Ronda to Gibraltar to Tarifa to Arcos de la Frontera to Cadiz to Jerez (over the period of 5 days). I am looking for any advice/tips/word of caution, parking, ZTL's, speed traps etc. from the experienced drivers. Any and all the tips are welcome. Thanks for your help.

Nice drive, easy legs, no tricks, well-signed. After Cadiz, go up to Jerez on the A4 instead of probably the way you came down for better scenery. Some people will urge you to leave the car in La Linea and walk into Gibraltar. Baloney, drive on in. There's plenty of parking right next to the lift to the top. And more down in the commercial district - - stop there for an hour or two as well. The damn monkeys are agressive - - watch out.

The major highways are in very good condition; the 2-lane roads to the smaller towns are narrow and winding, therefore a lot slower (although scenic). We found in driving this region in May that our drive times were more efficient on the major highways even if Google recommended a "shorter" route through the hills. Some of your routes will require driving the 2-lane roads. When we went to Gibraltar, our plan was to park in La Linea and walk across, which we did. The line-up of cars waiting to drive across the border into Gibraltar was probably 2 miles long. Of course it probably isn't always like that. We got a kick out of walking across because of walking over the airport runway - you don't get to do that everywhere.
