Seeking help planning a driving itinerary with 7 days in northern spain Oct. 9-15! Not sure if picking up a car in Bilbao and dropping off in Santiago is best or vice versa, and an idea of costs of tolls and parking fees would be great along with best places to stay. Thank you!!!

You can get route and toll information at www.viamichelin.com. There is usually a perfectly good non-toll alternative to any toll route (tolls can be expensive).

There are no toll roads anywhere near that route. Parking can range from free to to a nominal amount for a couple of hours in cities to twenty-five bucks per day in a garage. Garages in Bilbao are probably closer to twenty bucks per twenty-four hours. I've never used a garage west of Bilbao that I can remeber. Make sure you know who you'll be dealing with on the Santiago end, it's a small place and you can get served a good dose of mystery meat if you go for the lowest price. Hertz, ect will be quite a bit more - - maybe fifty percent. It's going to be damp along the Vizcaya coast, take a sweater and a rain jacket.
